Introducing the New Instructors of 2018!

Becky Bourne

Becky started her classical dance training at BalletNova at the age of 3 where she studied under the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus. She has done summer intensives with The Scottish National Ballet, Burkyln Ballet Theater, The Joffrey Ballet, and The Richmond Ballet. In 2009, Becky attended Virginia Commonwealth University and made the Gold Rush Dance Team. She was chosen as captain for the 2013-2014 team and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Becky auditioned for the Washington Wizard Girls and was selected as a member of the 2015-2016 team. During her 3 years on the team she was chosen to attend the All Pro Dance Convention in Atlanta, Georgia and was crowned as the 2016 Cover Girl for Sideline Distraction Magazine. She was selected to attend the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and NBA House, as well as the 2017 All PRO convention in Las Vegas. She was also an assistant coach and choreographer for the NBA Washington Wiz Kids and WNBA Mystics Mayhem Dance Teams for 2 seasons. Becky retired after her 3rd season as a Washington Wizard Girl and now teaches and choreographs for many studios, high schools and colleges in the area.

Josh Nixon

Josh began dancing at the Centreville Dance Academy in Virginia. As a well-rounded student of dance, Josh trained in ballet, lyrical, jazz. Mr. Nixon’s professional choice was the art of Tap Dance, encouraged by his trainers Pam McCormick and Heidi Stafford. Josh joined MYTE (Metropolitan Youth Tap Ensemble), a semi-professional company, based in Virginia under the direction of Katie Padgett and Jason Holley where he was exposed to performing opportunities throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC. Performing live, Corporate events and television commercial choreographic works, by Broadway veteran Joseph Webb and Crishon Jerome.

Josh has become a well-respected Tap Dance performer and instructor, with the privilege of participating in shows, residencies, workshops and festivals in over 30 states in America and 20 countries throughout the world. His professional career evolved to also afford him the opportunity to serve as the Assistant to Joseph Webb, the Artistic Director of the House of Tap youth company for 2 years. His continually evolving career has brought him to be seen in Dance Teacher and Dance Magazine features, as well as production and performance opportunities alongside his mentors Chloe and Maud Arnold, Derick Grant, and Ted Louis Levy. Josh is a proud member of Chloe Arnold's Apartment 33, Ryan Johnson's SOLE Defined and Heidi Stafford's Sundays on Tap. Josh has been seen most recently performing at the Root 100 Awards, Lincoln Center, The Smithsonian Institution, and on the Hapag and Lloyd cruise ship, MS Europa 2.

When not traveling, pursuing his Bachelor’s Degrees from Arizona State University, Josh passes on his love, respect and knowledge for tap dance as a guest instructor at Universities and throughout the DC/Metro Area.

Heather Grosse

After growing up dancing in Richmond, VA, Heather continued on to expand her knowledge and passion for dance in New York City. She is beyond thrilled to be teaching at Encore and she is ready to fill each of her classes with compassion and discipline and can't wait to share her passion with you and your family.
